Court seeks anti-terror agency’s response to banned group PFI member’s bail plea

The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a notice to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on the bail plea of Ibrahim Puthanathani, former national coordinator of the banned group Popular Front of India (PFI).
The court has sought the anti-terror agency’s response to his bail plea.
Ibrahim Puthanathani moved the High Court after the trial court dismissed his plea and refused to grant him bail.
The NIA has chargesheeted Ibrahim Puthanathani and a few other PFI leaders in a terror case, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA).
He was arrested by the NIA back in 2022. The probe agency had alleged that these people were conspiring and collecting funds from India and abroad to carry out terrorist activities in multiple states of the country.
The court has scheduled the next hearing in the matter for November 11.
